Health and Wellness Expo Offering Vaccinations, Wellness Kits, and Professional Services to Community on May 18

MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 5, 2022 – New Direction Christian Church, The Power Center Community Development Corporation, Leadership Memphis, and Volunteer Memphis announced a free Health and Wellness Expo scheduled for May 18 at New Direction Christian Church located at 6120 Winchester Road from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be held in partnership with the Shelby County Health Department and Memphis Housing and Community Development. Students, families, and others in attendance will be able to get vaccinated for COVID-19, Meningitis, HPV, and all vaccinations required by Memphis-Shelby County Schools as well as have access to financial, legal, counseling, and job recruitment services.

“With schools transitioning between in-person and virtual classrooms over the last two years, some students are behind on their vaccinations. We are proud to partner with exceptional organizations to host the Health and Wellness Expo May 18 at New Direction Church to offer a safe way for students to get vaccinated and protect themselves and others from these illnesses,” said Reggie Crenshaw, President and CEO of Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis.

Anyone in attendance will be able to receive a vaccine, not just students. People wanting to get vaccinated will need to bring their ID, shot record, and insurance card. Individuals that receive Tenncare will be able to show their Tenncare cards for free vaccinations. People without health insurance will also be able to receive free vaccinations. Anyone who would like to be vaccinated and cannot get their shots that day will be able to schedule a future appointment to visit a clinic, or for a home visit.

“The goal of the Health and Wellness Expo is to connect the community with the health resources they need in a place they trust. We are extremely grateful to our community partners for offering their services and we look forward to helping the students, families, and anyone else in attendance,” said Dr. Stacy Spencer, Senior Pastor for New Direction Christian Church.

The Health and Wellness Expo will also offer free health and wellness kits to people that receive Tenncare or EBT benefits and show their registration cards. In addition to the health and wellness offerings, the event will feature organizations offering financial, legal, counseling, and job recruitment services for anyone in need.

“As an organization that promotes the sustainability of our community, we want to always be a liaison in making resources accessible. This event will offer support to families in multiple ways,” said Dr. Alexis Gwin-Miller, Executive Director of the Power Center CDC.

The May 18 Health and Wellness Expo will be held at New Direction Christian Church located at 6120 Winchester Rd. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free and open for all to attend. Anyone wanting to be vaccinated will need to bring their ID, shot record, and insurance card.
