Doctor Bobby White Named President and CEO of Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis

 

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – October 7, 2024 – The Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis Board of Directors named Dr. Bobby White as their new President and CEO today. Dr. White is a native Memphian, long-time educator and founder of Frayser Community Schools, a Leadership Memphis Changemaker award recipient, and a 2014 Leadership Memphis Executive Program graduate.

 

Dr. White will accept the position from Interim President and CEO, Shirley Ford on Monday, October 7, 2024. Ford began her tenure as Interim President and CEO when past President and CEO, Reggie Crenshaw, announced his departure to pursue other opportunities in June of this year.

 

“Over the last few months, we embarked on a search to find our next CEO for Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis, and I am proud to announce today that our search is over. The executive search committee and the board of Directors have approved Dr. Bobby White as the next President and CEO of Leadership Memphis. We are extremely thankful to Shirley Ford, who served as Interim President and CEO for the past three months. We know Dr. White will continue to build upon the great work Ms. Ford started during her tenure as well as the Leadership Memphis legacy built over the last 46 years to lead the organization to reach its fullest potential,” said Dr. Shunji Brown-Woods, Search Committee Chair, Leadership Memphis.

 

As a tireless champion for his hometown of Memphis, his immediate community of Frayser, the development of young people, the improvement of the educational system, the betterment of Memphis, and his dedication to effective and inspirational leadership Dr. White brings more than 20 years of leadership and community-uplifting work experience to Leadership Memphis.

 

Dr. White served as the Assistant Director for the Tennessee Charter School Resource Center then began his tenure with Memphis City Schools where he served for 12 years as a Teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal and Principal while working in the schools with the most need for leadership in the city. Following his time at Memphis City Schools, Dr. White completed the Tennessee Charter Incubator and founded Frayser Community Schools, a Charter Management Organization designed with the intent of positively transforming schools with the support of the community to build Family Centered Schools (FCS) in Frayser and Memphis Communities as a whole.

 

Dr. White has a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Freed Hardeman University, a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with an Urban Focus from the University of Memphis, and a Bachelor of Arts in History/Political Science from LeMoyne-Owen College.
