Leadership Memphis is hosting high-ranking leaders from Europe in a four-day, five-night overview of Memphis. This event is part of the Marshall Memorial Fellows exchange program of the German Marshall Fund, which allows these individuals to spend 28 days in the US experiencing five different cities.

The participants in this program are Rickard Booson, Vice President at Airbus; Adela Conchado, Ph.D Candidate at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICAI); Ömer Güler, Vice Consul at Embassy of the Republic of Turkey; Radu Adrian Oprea, President at Young Entrepreneurs Association from the Southeast Region of Romania; and Sinem Taskin, Policy Advisor at Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Fellows will be staying with host families from April 18-23, which are comprised of Leadership Memphis Alumni and influential members of the community including Dorian Spears, Steve Smart, and Barry Yoakum.

“This partnership with the German Marshal Fund allows Leadership Memphis to branch out into international issues as well as have an outsider’s point of view of what Memphis is all about. It is really interesting to see how people from overseas interpret the United States and especially Memphis. This is my third year hosting the International Fellows and I value the learning experience and new relationships that have been acquired over the years,” said Jared Bulluck, Director of Community and Alumni Engagement.

Leadership Memphis has put together a  list of activities that  focuses on civil rights, faith and community, urban-rural relations  and insights relating to the professions of the five individuals. They will get to experience a homestyle Memphis BBQ cookout, take a hike through Shelby Farms, tour St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, visit The National Civil Rights Museum, experience our faith community with First Baptist on Broad and enjoy breakfast at the Blue Plate Cafe.

The Church Health Center has invited them to enjoy learning leadership lessons from former Shelby County Mayor Bill Morris, hear Antony Sheehan & Dr. Scott Morris TED-style talk: “Collaboration & Radical Community" and end the night with a Memphis Grizzlies watch party. RSVP to the free event here.

They will also be able to join Leadership Memphis and several local Young Professional organizations for a conversation with Mayor A C Wharton Jr. (City of Memphis) and Mayor Mark Luttrell (Shelby County) about working together to create a Greater Memphis through collaboration. Facilitated by Brian J. Stephens, CEO of Caissa Public Strategy, this in-depth conversation will cover how city and county government work together. RSVP for the free event here.

"The lively exchange of ideas and lifelong relationships are something I look forward to every year. The fellows bring such a fresh perspective, and often see success we may take for granted. It's one of the highlights of being a LM Alumni," said Gwyn Fisher, Greater Memphis Regional Director.
