You will survive 3-2-1.
Who better to tell you about what you’re about to get into than somebody who’s already gotten into it? 3 days and 2 nights with strangers, pushing yourself to do things you may never have done before, and unplugging yourself from your normal routine can seem intimidating. Maybe even scary. As our alumni explained to our incoming class, you have to trust the process. You’ll walk away from this experience with new bonds, new perspectives, but most importantly, very much alive.
This isn’t last year’s class.
If you’re an alum, you’re familiar with Leadership Memphis’ class surveys. We work hard to get as much feedback as we can about every step of our process, and we listen to it. Based on some strong feedback from last year, we’re adjusting a few elements of our classes to be sure each participant is engaged in the whole process and benefitting from every day they spend with us. Our overarching mission has not changed, though. We are still working to prepare and mobilize leaders to work together for the good of the whole community.
You’re joining a powerful network.
Leadership Memphis has more than 3,000 alumni across our program classes, including local government officials, business executives, entrepreneurs and faith leaders. These connections that you have access to as alumni are invaluable as you begin to navigate Memphis with the new perspective you’ll obtain from this class. Whether you have a big city-wide project, or a small neighborhood initiative, you’ll find the people you need to make your plans happen through your Leadership Memphis network.
You’re going to love Memphis.
Whether you’re a life-long Memphian or brand new to the city or somewhere in between, your view of Memphis will change. You’ll have the opportunity to see parts of the city you likely don’t see often. You’ll spend time in communities that you may not be familiar with. You’ll meet people you might not have had the chance to meet otherwise. As you do each of these things, you’ll be learning more about the great Bluff City, and the more you know, the more you’ll love. But maybe you already love Memphis, right? You’re going to love it more.
Don’t forget to get social.
Share your experiences with the rest of Memphis through social media. Your class hashtag is #EP2017, and we’d love it if you’d tag us in your social media posts. We want to see what you’re sharing and use social media as one more way to connect, engage, and learn.
Thank you to our fabulous alumni who came out to share their experiences with our incoming class: Joy Truly Brown, Noma Anderson, Jonathan Skrmetti, Metrick Houser and Leslie Smith. Thanks also to Jason’s Deli and The Office at Uptown for their excellent catering. And thanks to Justin Jamerson for sharing this great photo with us. We are looking forward to an exciting year with all of you!
